The event “Immersion” will explore the evolving landscape of digital arts, including augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), in Bulgaria and the Czech Republic.
Digital arts are rapidly expanding across Europe. From 3D mapping festivals transforming cityscapes and heritage sites, to immersive art galleries and museums redefining cultural experiences, this phenomenon is capturing widespread public interest. Digital creativity is increasingly seen as a demonstration of skill and influence, as technology and policy vie for attention and resources. It also bridges publicly governed sectors such as culture, tourism, education, and even the military.
As digital arts evolve, new cultural policies and legislation are being introduced across Europe to safeguard the rights of artists and organizations. However, the role of the audience in this transformation often receives less attention. How do digital arts shape cultural engagement and public interest? Do they succeed in directing attention and fostering meaningful, informed participation?
This discussion brings together leading creators and curators of digital art from Bulgaria and the Czech Republic. It will examine the factors that influence their work—from institutional missions and public demand to the latest cultural policies and new regulations such as the European Artificial Intelligence Act. The conversation will also explore how digital arts connect with audiences and how their societal and sector-wide impact is being measured.
